Chapter 10: Marketing with YouTube

YouTube is one of the biggest social media sites in the world. It has  about 2.3 billion active monthly users, which is almost a third of the whole internet. YouTube's post type is strictly videos, but they recently added shorts that are short form videos like TikTok.

There are many ways for brands to advertise on YouTube. Brands can either do an add at the start of the video or pay the video creators to sponsor the product. Ads at the start of the video is the safest option, as it has less risk than the sponsorship. This is due to the personal connection that the creators have with their watchers. If the creator doesn't like your product, the viewers won't either because they respect the creators opinion, which can really be a detriment to a brand, as that will make sales almost be stagnant.

The algorithm on YouTube has been perfected to always push videos of high quality to the recommended feed of more people. Brands that make attentive and high quality ads will more than likely get a big boost in attention and sales for their product.

Advertise on YouTube can either be the best thing for a brand or a detriment. The algorithm gives you the best chance for your brand to become viral and increase sales, but it can also not push your video to others causing no one to see your product.

  1. It is crazy how ads on YouTube have evolved I remember only watching about 1-2 ads per video but now its usually around 4. This is where social media platforms make their money though, so it makes sense.
